What is paint correction?

Paint correction is a specialist machine polishing process that reduces or removes defects in your car's clear coat, the thin transparent layer that gives paint its gloss. By carefully levelling the surface, light is reflected evenly again and the colour underneath looks deeper and sharper.

How much can be corrected depends on the condition of the paint, how deep the defects are and how much paint can safely be removed. I measure paint depth as I go, and I'll always tell you honestly what is achievable rather than promise every mark will disappear.

Imperfections that can often be improved

  • —Swirl marks and wash-induced marring
  • —Light scratches
  • —Holograms and previous polishing defects
  • —Oxidation and dull paintwork
  • —Loss of gloss and clarity

Paint correction options

Single-stage paint enhancement

Ideal for paintwork that needs its gloss brought back and minor defects reduced. Suitable for cars with relatively good paint, or owners looking for a noticeable visual improvement.

Multi-stage paint correction

A more intensive process for paint with heavier swirl marks, scratches or previous polishing defects. Designed to achieve a higher level of refinement where the paint condition safely allows.

Our paint correction process

  1. Step 1

    Paintwork inspection

I look over the paint closely under proper lighting, take paint depth readings, identify the defects and work out the safest approach for your car.

  2. Step 2

    Thorough preparation

The car is safe washed and decontaminated, removing tar, iron fallout and bonded grime so nothing is dragged across the paint during polishing.

  3. Step 3

    Precision machine polishing

Suitable pad and polish combinations are chosen panel by panel to improve clarity, reduce imperfections and bring the gloss back, without removing more clear coat than necessary.

  4. Step 4

    Finishing & protection

The finish is refined and we talk about protecting it. A ceramic coating is often the best way to keep corrected paint looking its best.
