Guide to Car Detailing
You care about your car, want it to look good and to protect it for the future. That's why you're here on my website, but knowing which service or options are best for your car and what separates my services from others may need a little more explanation. In this guide to detailing I will explain some of the processes I use and why, along with what can be done to get your car looking beautiful and, more importantly, how to keep it that way.
What is car detailing?
The clue is in the title; car detailing is the systematic cleaning, enhancement and protection of the many surfaces of your car, both inside and out to a very high standard. This particularly includes the restoration and enhancement of a cars paint through machine polishing to achieve a finish which is as good, if not better, than new.
Why choose me?
My business and reputation are based on the quality of my work, my communications skills and that I deliver excellent results consistently. I love my job and take great pride in delivering the best results I possibly can. I believe in honesty. In a world which often over promises and under-delivers I aim to give a realistic view on what is and isn't achievable.
I am a member of P.V.D. - the professional valeters and detailers association. My insurance policies mean I am covered for all eventualities, including: moving and driving my customers cars, collecting and delivering customers cars, accidental damage cover (while working on the car), overnight storage cover (at the unit I work from) and public liability cover.
I am also the only Garage Therapy and IGL coatings accredited detailer in Devon or Cornwall, offering their full ranges of professional grade ceramic coatings.
I have worked on all kinds of vehicles from daily drivers to supercars, but treat them all with the same level of care and respect as each other.

Whats the difference between a car detailer and the local hand car wash?
Quite a lot! The main differences are the products and methods which I use.
The way most car washes (both hand and automatic) operate cause damage to your paint. This can happen in several ways:
*Please note; I am not pointing the finger of blame at anyone, but have seen all of the issues below firsthand and are very common*
-
use of strong chemicals causing damage to paint and glass
-
use of acid wheel cleaners causing etching on wheels
-
strong traffic film remover and other chemicals damaging metal and plastic trims
-
paint scratches caused from poor washing techniques
-
waxes, sealants and ceramic coatings being either damaged by brushing or removed by strong chemicals
-
silicone sprays on interior surfaces making floors and dashboards shiny and slippery
I use only products from the best manufacturers, which are where possible, eco-friendly and PH neutral. This means that not only does this safely and effectively get your car clean, but it also leaves it with a beautiful glossy finish.
My wash process takes great care to remove the vast majority of dirt from your cars paint before I ever touch it with my hands. This hugely reduces the risk of causing swirls (fine scratches) in the paint.

Prevention is better than the cure
If your cars paint has swirls and car wash scratches then of course, I can correct the paint through machine polishing to remove most of these marks and take the finish of the paint to a condition which is often better than when brand new. This is a labour intensive, time consuming process though so looking after your car correctly from day one will not only save you money, but will keep your car looking its best for longer while also reducing the likelihood of needing an expensive paint correction.
Easier maintenance
Protecting the various surfaces of your car - whether its the paint, wheels, glass, leather or plastic trims, will make looking after your car much easier. This doesn't mean you will no longer need to clean it, but it will make it easier to remove dirt, road grime, brake dust and avoid stains. If for instance, the outside of your car is fully protected then, with the right aftercare there is no reason why your car shouldn't look like new after every clean. I offer a regular maintenance plan to keep your car looking its best all year round.
Enjoy your car
Getting into a clean, beautifully presented car feels good. It makes for a nicer experience behind the wheel. When it rains, watching the water roll off your car in tight droplets is very satisfying. After our houses, our cars are usually our most expensive purchases, they say a lot about you, so looking after them correctly helps to retain their beauty and resale value.
For advice on how to best look after your car, which products to use, or to discuss how to get your car to the condition you want, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
